India has also significantly strengthened its healthcare capacity over the past decade, with the country now having 818 medical colleges and over 1.28 lakh MBBS seats, creating one of the world’s largest pipelines of medical talent. As we move ahead to achieve the goal of Viksit Bharat 2047, our goals should not only be to treat illnesses but to improve the health status of our country through preventive care, early diagnosis, medical research and technology-enabled healthcare.

The Government’s allocation of ₹1,06,530 crore for the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in the Union Budget 2026–27 reflects the country's continued commitment to strengthening healthcare infrastructure, research and innovation, reinforcing health as a cornerstone of India’s development journey. Achieving this vision will call for cooperation among all stakeholders, including governments, healthcare providers, academia and industry, to ensure these advancements reach everyone, irrespective of their location and socioeconomic status.
