Indian’s Mustard Honey Reaches Dubai
The landmark shipment marks the first-ever export of mustard honey from the region and is expected to create new opportunities for local beekeepers and farmers by connecting them with international markets. The initiative could also help farmers achieve better price realisation compared with local markets.
The export is part of efforts to strengthen Tripura’s emerging honey and beekeeping sector and diversify the state’s agricultural value chain. With organised production, quality improvement and export-oriented practices, Farmer Producer Organisations can play an important role in helping small farmers access overseas markets.
The initiative was supported by Salt Range Foods Pvt. Ltd., which has been working with Dergang FPO to strengthen beekeeping and develop an export-oriented honey supply chain. The collaboration enabled the FPO to aggregate production and take its first step into the international market.
Tripura Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath described the first-ever export as a significant achievement for the state’s beekeepers and farmers, saying it demonstrates the potential of local agricultural products to reach global markets and create better income opportunities for farming communities.
The milestone also highlights the potential of FPO-led aggregation and industry partnerships in connecting farmers from the Northeast with international buyers. APEDA continues to support agricultural exports from the region through market linkages, capacity building, quality assurance and export facilitation.
The mustard honey shipment is expected to encourage more farmers and FPOs in Tripura and the wider Northeast to explore value addition, quality-focused production and international export opportunities.
