HRDS INDIA Condemns Custody of T.G. Mohandas, Calls for Equal and Impartial Application of Law
HRDS INDIA has expressed concern over the custody of RSS ideologue and political commentator T.G. Mohandas in connection with controversial remarks allegedly made about protesters at Jantar Mantar. The organisation questioned the manner and timing of the police action and called for equal and impartial application of the law.
HRDS INDIA said it does not endorse inflammatory, threatening or irresponsible statements made by anyone. However, it maintained that legal action must follow established law and due process and should not become a means of selective targeting based on political or ideological differences.
Founder-Secretary of HRDS INDIA Aji Krishnan said, “We do not support any statement that promotes violence, threatens individuals or crosses the limits of responsible public discourse. At the same time, the law must apply equally to everyone. If complaints have been filed against T.G. Mohandas, they should be investigated fairly and according to due process, but allegations of threats or inflammatory statements against individuals from other political or ideological groups must receive the same urgency. Selective enforcement undermines public confidence in the rule of law.”
The organisation said peaceful protest and filing complaints are legitimate democratic rights, but stressed that the State must respond neutrally and ensure that political or ideological differences do not determine the manner in which law enforcement acts.
HRDS INDIA also raised concerns over whether the controversy could divert public attention from other pressing issues in Kerala, including concerns over flood relief operations and protests by coastal communities.
The organisation urged the Kerala government and police to ensure transparency, due process and equal application of the law, while protecting democratic freedoms and legitimate political expression.
