General Upendra Dwivedi Relinquishes Appointment as Chief of the Army Staff
Commissioned into the Jammu and Kashmir Rifles in December 1984, General Dwivedi held several key command, staff and instructional appointments during his distinguished military career. He commanded units and formations across diverse operational environments, including the Northern and Western theatres, and played a pivotal role in enhancing the Army’s operational preparedness and combat capability.
As Chief of the Army Staff, General Dwivedi spearheaded key initiatives aimed at force modernisation, capability development, indigenous defence production and the integration of advanced technologies into military operations. He also focused on strengthening jointness among the Armed Forces, enhancing border infrastructure and improving the welfare of serving personnel, veterans and their families.
