India Gets New CDS as General NS Raja Subramani Takes Over

General NS Raja Subramani on Sunday assumed charge as the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) and Secretary, Department of Military Affairs, succeeding General Anil Chauhan, who completed his tenure on May 30. A ceremonial Guard of Honour was accorded to the new CDS at the South Block lawns in the national capital.

General Subramani, a highly decorated officer with more than 40 years of distinguished service, has held several important command, staff and instructional appointments during his military career. Prior to assuming the country’s top military post, he served as Military Adviser at the National Security Council Secretariat and earlier as Vice Chief of the Army Staff.

In his first address after taking over, the new CDS said transformation of the armed forces, organisational reforms, enhanced jointness and deeper integration among the three services would remain his primary focus. He also underlined the importance of self-reliance and innovation, stating that the armed forces would accelerate the development and induction of indigenous defence systems to strengthen national security.
