SEBI, NISM, IICA Join Hands to Boost Corporate Governance & Sustainability
In a major initiative aimed at strengthening India’s corporate governance framework and promoting sustainable finance practices, Securities and Exchange Board of India, National Institute of Securities Markets and Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate in the areas of corporate governance, ESG and capital markets.
The agreement seeks to enhance cooperation in capacity building, research, policy advocacy and professional education related to Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) practices and responsible corporate conduct. The three institutions will jointly organise training programmes, workshops, seminars, certification courses and research initiatives to deepen awareness and expertise in these emerging domains.
Officials said the collaboration would focus on strengthening governance standards, improving investor awareness and supporting the development of sustainable financial ecosystems in the country. The partnership is also expected to facilitate knowledge-sharing among regulators, industry professionals, policymakers, independent directors and market participants.
The move assumes significance amid the growing global emphasis on ESG compliance, transparency and ethical corporate practices. As investors increasingly prioritise sustainability-linked investments, the collaboration aims to align India’s corporate and financial sectors with international governance and sustainability benchmarks.
The MoU is expected to help build a stronger talent pool in governance and sustainable finance while encouraging wider adoption of best practices across India’s corporate landscape.
