Sunjay Kapur Estate Dispute || Karisma Kapoor Vs. Priya Kapur || Delhi High Court (Before the Joint Registrar)

Defence Flags ‘Copy-Paste’ Legal Strategy of Rani and Karishma, CDR Claims Labeled ‘Fabricated’

In proceedings held today before the Joint Registrar Mr Gagandeep Singh of the Delhi High Court, Priya Kapur’s defence counsel submitted that the application filed by Rani Kapur is a verbatim, “cut-and-paste” reproduction of the earlier application filed by Karisma Kapoor, without any independent pleadings or factual foundation specific to Rani Kapur. It was further pointed out that, as per settled procedure, once such an application is filed, Rani Kapur must either withdraw it or the Court must grant Priya Kapur an opportunity to file a formal reply. The Joint Registrar acknowledged this and accordingly directed Rani Kapur to take a clear position: either withdraw the application or permit Priya Kapur to file her reply. Rani Kapur’s counsel conceded the request for Priya Kapur’s reply to be filed. These submissions were made in light of the application moved by Rani Kapur seeking verification of the signatures of late Sunjay Kapur in his Will.

Addressing the application filed by Karisma Kapoor seeking to place the alleged CDR (call detail records) of Sunjay & Priya Kapur on record before the Court. Priya Kapur’s counsel submitted that false and misleading material had been circulated on social media purporting to be call data records of Priya Kapur. It was pointed out that no private individual can lawfully access such records in this manner, and that the material in question was fabricated and planted, and has since been taken down from the public domain. Taking note of the submissions, the Court directed Priya Kapur to file her reply in response.

The matter is listed for further proceedings before the Joint Registrar on 26 February, and before the Delhi High Court on 27 March.
